Romantic Derek Hough sent Cheryl Cole a bouquet of flowers to celebrate her landing the job as a judge on Simon Cowell's launch of the US X Factor.

The Dancing With The Stars pro, who affectionately refers to Cheryl as Dimples, is said to have chosen a bunch of pink and cream roses for his girl.

'Congratulations Dimples. You're a superstar...I knew you would do it. D x,' the card read, reports The Sun.

Derek, 25, spent hours helping Cheryl, 27, prepare for her screen tests with Fox TV and helping her through the stressful wait to find out whether she'd got the job.

But Simon revealed this week that American TV bosses were always keen to sign up Cheryl as a judge, despite rumours they were hesitant.

'Mike Darnell and Peter Rice will tell you they wanted her all the time,' Simon, 51, told Deadline.com.

'I showed a tape to Mike Darnell 2 years ago of a clip I'd shot in England of Cheryl and he said there and then, "I'd hire her now for [American] Idol."

'They absolutely fell in love with her...they were desperate for her.'
