CHLA President/CEO Richard Cordova was joined by city officials, patients and parents at a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Marion and John E. Anderson Pavilion, a $636 million building. Marion Anderson, a hospital board of trustees member who along with her husband donated $50 million toward the project, was also on hand.
Hospital officials said the building is one of the most technologically advanced in the country, including real-time electronic tracking and recording of patients' vital signs and surgical equipment in rooms for critically ill children to allow for immediate bedside procedures.
The hospital will include 120 beds dedicated exclusively to intensive care.
The rooms were all designed with "family zones" that provide room for relatives to stay overnight with patients. The building also includes family lounges, a business center with Internet access and reference materials and a 24-hour "Family Pantry" for families staying with their children around the clock.
About 200 patients are expected to be moved into the building on July 17.
