Canoga Park actor Sam L. Jones III, ex-'Smallville' star, gets prison in oxycodone case

Sam Jones III played Clark Kent's friend for three years on TV's "Smallville." He was sentenced to one year in prison on June 22, 2011, for conspiring to sell more than 10,000 oxycodone pills.

A Canoga Park man who starred in the television series 'Smallville' was sentenced today to a year in prison for conspiring to sell more than 10,000 oxycodone pills, a painkiller sometimes called hillbilly heroin.

Sam L. Jones III, 28, who played Clark Kent's buddy on the first three seasons of the show, pleaded guilty in December in Los Angeles federal court.

Jones, who was arrested in October 2009 at his Canoga Park home by U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration agents, was a co-conspirator in a series of drug deals in 2008, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Jones was the 'Hollywood connection' in a plot to illegally purchase and distribute the drug, which is also known by the trade name OxyContin, prosecutors said.

Along with the prison term, U.S. District Judge Robert H. Whaley ordered Jones to serve three years under supervised release after he is released from custody.

Afterward, he tweeted: 'Just got out of court! God is great!!'

Jones, who is free on bond until his surrender, describes himself on Twitter as "actor/CEO/young mogul."
