Fire destroys mobile home in Santa Clarita, homeowner hospitalized

SANTA CLARITA - A fire inside a Santa Clarita mobile home destroyed it and left a man hospitalized with minor injuries, officials said today.

The fully engulfed home was reported at 11:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 29000 block of Bouquet Canyon Road, near Shadow Valley Lane, Santa Clarita sheriff's Lt. Mark Hershey said. The blaze was knocked down at 11:54 p.m. on Wednesday.

The homeowner and sole occupant left the house before he was overcome with smoke, Hershey said. He was taken to a hospital for medical treatment due to smoke inhalation.

Deputies evacuated neighbors from their homes while firefighters extinguished the fire. No one else was hurt.

The fire caused about $85,000 in damages, Hershey said.
