Selena Gomez has confessed she always gets nervous when she is on the red carpet at premieres and showbiz events.

The singer-and-actress - who is dating Justin Bieber - admits being in the spotlight doesn't "come naturally" to her and she gets butterflies in her stomach when she attends glitzy events.

She said: "I am [a normal girl next door]. I can still walk down the street, so in that respect I'm quite lucky. But some things in my life don't come naturally, like walking the red carpet.

"It's pretty scary! It's not that I'm not confident in myself, it's just that the red carpet is not somewhere I feel totally comfortable."

Just as she isn't happy on the red carpet, Selena also admits she finds touring tough, especially when she is on her own in hotel rooms.

She told LOOK magazine: "It's hard, especially when I'm in a hotel room by myself, thousands of miles away from the people I love. Of course it's difficult. I miss all the people I love, my family and my friends, when I'm away from home.

"Thank goodness for Skype, I don't know what people did before it!"

However, the 'Tell Me Something I Don't Know' singer realises how lucky she is to have her career and says when she's feeling lonely, rather than mope around, she uses the time to relax and forget about work.

She said: "At those times I remind myself that I'm so lucky to be doing what I'm doing, When I feel like that I just go and run a hot bubble bath and relax."
